Coach Fernando Ortiz was asked point-blank after Colo Colo's 4-3 win over Everton whether the goalkeeper would actually make it to Santiago. His answer was four words in Spanish: '¿Sabes si llega?... Yo tampoco.' Translation: 'Do you know if he's coming? Me neither.'
That is not the kind of quote a front office wants echoing through the press room.
According to reporting by La Tercera's El Deportivo, Vozinha missed the flight that was supposed to bring him to Santiago. His camp has cited personal issues. The club and the player's agents have said the visa and work permits are resolved, but no confirmed arrival date exists. 'We still cannot give a date with certainty,' Vozinha's Portuguese representative Bernardo Vasconcelos told El Deportivo.
The match itself was a window into Colo Colo's current fragility between the posts. Everton scored three goals, exploiting errors from the league leader before Colo Colo eventually turned it around. Ortiz backed his players publicly — 'players are human beings, we all make mistakes and the reaction is there' — but the subtext was clear: the team needs a goalkeeper situation it can actually rely on.
Ortiz also acknowledged the result came at a cost. 'It's an important win. It was a very difficult opponent that set up the game well. We managed to resolve it in many situations. I value the commitment and many things, but we need to correct,' he said in post-match comments to broadcasters.
The demo, in this case, is not the product. Mosa announced the signing. The paperwork is reportedly clean. The player still isn't there. Until Vozinha walks through the door in Santiago, Colo Colo is running its title defense with a goalkeeper-shaped gap in the squad and a head coach who, by his own admission, knows exactly as much about the timeline as the reporters asking him about it.
